In 2006, dp.Ai was commissioned to renovate a duplex that consisted of a century cottage with two year old single storey addition occupying the rear section of the property. The downtown Hamilton house was a series of enclosed rooms and doors. A 700 square foot, two storey addition unified the space into a coherent whole, adding dining space and two children’s bedrooms. The resulting space is open with all living spaces flowing into one another. A open stair leads to the new bedrooms, which are interconnected via a corridor to the master suite in the attic of the original cottage. New bamboo floors throughout reinforce the sense of unity and connectedness. Construction cost was $125,000. |
